It was a dark and stormy night ...

This could actually be the beginning of this comics project, since it was a real ‘dark and stormy’ season when The Academic Line project was conceived and developed between the Arctic Circle and Northern Europe. It was launched in late autumn 2023 with the aim of moving beyond traditional academic outputs by embracing comics, humour, and fictional writing. The project originated from sharing stories, fictional dialogues, first-hand experiences, and sketches about the daily academic miseries and nonsense.

As such, The Academic Line is a movement of scholars who have a love–hate relationship with academia and, most importantly, possess the sense of humour needed to laugh at the sometimes absurd aspects of academic life.

Led with charisma by Dr Ellen Fant, The Academic Line was - and continues to be - an engaging coping mechanism for successfully navigating the academic world.
